Renata Nassar
My experience
Renata Nassar (Sabbag), scholarship holder of the Dr. Gerda von Mach Memorial Foundation, 2007-2013.
Radiology specialist in Berlin.
Even days after the selection of the scholarship holders, back in March 2007, I still couldn’t quite believe it. I received the good news as an e-mail, which I have saved as a fond memory to this day. I cried for joy at the time. It was just unbelievable to have someone to support and encourage me in my studies.
Growing up in a financially less-privileged family and in a conflict area not only confronted me with financial and educational challenges, but also helped me to realize the value of higher education. For me, becoming a physician was a clear goal that would give me job security and a better future.
After graduating from secondary school in Israel, I came to Germany in 2006 to study medicine. I first learned the German language in Hamburg, where I attended the Colón language school for six months.
I then studied human medicine at Alberts-Ludwigs-Universität in lovely Freiburg. Those were very beautiful and intense years. I made the decision to become a radiologist relatively early in my studies, primarily out of a love of anatomy. After graduating, I moved to the colorful and unconventional capital of Berlin for private reasons, where I did further training in radiology, for the most part in a clinic and then in a practice. Since the beginning of 2020, I am officially a very happy and proud specialist in radiology and continue to work in outpatient care.
Without the generous support of your foundation, all that I have achieved to date would not have been possible. Medical school was an extremely intensive learning experience. The amount of material was vast and stamina was absolutely necessary. The fact that I was able to tackle my medical studies in a much more relaxed manner with the scholarship in my pocket meant a lot to me.
I am very grateful to the Dr. Gerda von Mach Memorial Foundation for its generous support and am honored to be a former foundation scholar. You will always be a part of my success.
Finally, I would like to thank dear Ms. Böttcher for her help, understanding and attention – without her, many things would not have been possible!
Best regards,
Rinati
